How do I make Vista play older videos from XP?

Hi! I need to make videos from XP play, and I think I need CODECS, but I downloaded the vista service codec pack, and it didn't help. I am pretty much not very good at computers, but I just want to be able to play my old video files from XP, and I need to know what to do. Please help!!! Thanks!

I find the K-Lite codec pack Pretty good, plus you get the media player classic with it :). Just check the file extensions to see if the one you're looking for is in the list :).

well I don't know anything about file extensions, but when I try to download the mega pack from the site you recommended, it won't download, and instead forces me to do a registry cleaning, which I don't need, because my computer IS brand new. How do I get around the registry cleaning page? There seems to be no link to bypass it. Thanks!

That codec pack worked! And Nevermind about the other vids, I just realized that the videos I couldn't watch were videos done with my old webcam, I don't care about them, I was just bugged that I couldn't view them before I remembered what they were. Thanks! Great to have this forum here!
