Is there option to perform repair install from WinRe???

Hi guys,

The actual problem is SP2 is not installing, error: 0x80071aa7.
I cannot proceed with Repair install since i have already installed SP1 (Disc does not have SP1).
I don't want to try slipstream as vLite has some issues with SP2 installation.

Question: is there option to replace all the system files (i.e repair install) and settings to default....using WinRe ???

Thank for your support

Hi,

Not that I know of.:(

You might get hold of the Vista SP2 .iso with SP2 preinstalled.

Should be able to do an upgrade install with that, or better yet, a clean install.

Don't believe you can do a full repair install from WinRe.

There's a lot that can be done from there.

I assume you have tried Last known Good Configuration .

One alternative is to use Gparted bootable to shrink your Vista drive.

SourceForge.net: GParted: Downloading ...

GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD

Here's an isoburner if you don't have one to hand:

View attachment Burn CDCC.zip

Then do a clean install onto the second partition - skip entering the product key during install if you like. ( Leave the existing partition marked as active).

That should give you the option to boot into either Vista install - it should repair mbr , bootmgr and bcd issues - if that is the problem.

If you then make the first installation the default boot partition in msconfig - you can simply delete the second one.

If you still can't boot into your existing Vista installation, you should at least be able to access your data from within the new install and maybe some of the programs will run as executables.

EDIT: You might try this first:

This is not a exact answer for my question but i found something else from your answer which would fix the issue in a different way.

Give me some time, i will get back to you on tuesday and update you on what exactly i am trying to do :).
