Can't open outlook or use control panel

Hi

I have an HP7900 16GB memory using Vista 64

I have a big problem as I can't install / remove any software. Can't access outlook 2003 (it just hangs, just like when I try to install / remove software)

I can't use the restore programmes either (Just hangs as above)

This all stated when a red cross appeared on my networking icon in the bottom right of the screen.

I have tried to down load registry checkers but as above, they can't install.

I can still access the internet and use all my adobe software, all office except outlook and use the internet.

Has anyone else seen this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nick

Hi bob

Thanks, I will try installing from my Vista disk as I cant restore from the control panel

Nick

I Would recommend restart and boot option "Safe mode" as "Administrator" and try a restore from there before re-installing from your vista install media.

and..........a registry checker wont help , how will it know what your reg is supposed to look like?? Steer clear of i say , spawn of the devil , get you into even more trouble. ;)

one more thing , i hate it when people blame everything on a virus , BUT back in the day of XP when i thought anti virus was something ou get from the doctor i had a very similar problem that turned out to be a worm (previously something i thought you got from digging up your garden) so it may be wise , if you can , to run your AV software to do a scan , clever little bleeders these worms , get in yuor system restore points and everything.

Thanks guys I managed to get the PC working again by going to a previous installation of windows.

I have run a virus checker and nothing found.

I think Vista64 is a bit different.

I have never been able to switch off the PC as when I close it down it restarts 5 minutes later.

As I said its an HP7900 Vista Home Premium 64bit

I would just like to say Thanks again for all of you for helping

Nick
