Majour Problem during Installation

Okay, here's my problem.

I very recently purchased a Compal KHLB2. I inserted the Vista Ultimate x64 disk and went to work installing it. It goes through the initial process just fine, copying the files, expanding and whatnot. However, after it has to restart it will go to the part where the screen is black with the words "Please wait while Windows sets up your computer...", finally make it past that and then get back to the Installing Windows Vista Ultimate x64 page. It will then stay on Copying Vista Ultimate x64 files for a bit and then blue-screen me. Under Technical Information is tells me 0x00000124. Help!

Hello Stromlancer,

Guess I won't help much but looks like you have problem with hardware. Try to run the hard drive test first, next the GPU, CPU and memory. Please try to resit all the components. Also you can remove one memory stick and try to reinstall Vista once more.

I'm sure, someone on the forum with more experience will help you soon.

Cheers...

Tested my memory and hard drive. How exactly do I test my GPU and CPU? Thanks.

Pretty sure I won't be able to test them then, I don't have an operating system. It keeps blue-screening during the installation process for Vista.

Do you use the external graphic card? If so, try to install Vista without it. After successful installation you can reinstall the card. Also try installation with 1GB ram if possible. Hope it will help.

Disconnect the USB and PCI devices which are not necessary during Installation.

I do believe the people I purchased this from fused it to the board. It's an ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 HD, and I can't find it anywhere in the laptop or the schematics. However, a place where it seems like it should be has a chip, which is probably the ATI, and it appears to be fused onto the board...

Removed all PCI and USB devices not needed. Trying to install again...

*sigh* Still the same problem with the unused USB and PCI items removed.
