Desktop Icons Disappear

Hello,

I have a new Asus G50V with vista 64 premium. At least 5 times a day, my desktop icons disappear. Most, but not all, of them are shortcuts. It happens at random times, so I'm not sure what the trigger is. I've read similar threads, but they've left me confused about what to try. When I right click and check "view," "show desktop icons" is always checked. If I then click on it and repeat the process, I can get the icons back. But it concerns me. Is something malicious -- or just quirky -- happening? How can I fix it?

Thanks, in advance, for help.

do a system scan with a spyware, adware, malware program. you might have something in there doing it. also do a full system virus scan. might just be an issue your version of vista, or something not installed correctly.

also make sure all your drivers are up to date.

Thanks. My spyware and virus scans report that all is well. I notice this morning that when it starts booting up, the icons are all on desktop. By the time it finishes booting, they're gone. Then they disappear countless times during the day. Could you give me a tip on how to update drivers? Is there a way to check them all at once? (Remember, it is a new computer.) I appreciate your help.

goto the manufacturers website and get the chipset drivers from them, that should include everything that is onboard with the motherboard. anything else that is extra just goto their website and download the most current drivers.
