If you open a desktop icon on my Vista Home Premium 32 bit notebook on first booting up the notebook it will open the program. If you try to open another desktop icon it will not open but the program can be opened by using the start menu.
How do I correct this problem?

Probably the one that doesn't open is pointing to the wrong folder or program.

Right click the bad icon, click on properties. Look at the path and executable name and see if it is correct.

Another possibility is the executable/program is corrupted.
