I'm between a rock and a hard place.

Well this has been going for ages now, ever since my old HDD died. Basically, I created a new windows install on one of my older HDD then did a direct copy when my RMA HDD came back from Seagate. This is where the problems started I think because I copied them completely wrong, now the installs from the old and the one on the new HDD are intertwined in some way as when I try to install anything that uses the .msi install package it says it cannot be accessed however it works when I go back to the older install on my other HDD. My analysis is that it's trying to access it from the other install on my other HDD. I've tried everything to resolve this, re installing/re registering the install, registry edits. You link it, I've tried it. So I decided the only option would be a clean reinstall (seeing a repair install isn't available either).

Now however I've hit another wall, I've backed up all my data and ready to go with a restore once I reinstall Vista. However if I try and restore the data I won't have any space due to the fact the old data is still there. I'm nervous about deleting the data in order to restore it because I really don't want to loose it all (about 800GB altogether).

So I'm looking for some advice and reassurance really, are the backups reliable to restore? If I restore will it all restore my old (broken) install?

On a side note, my current install seems to think GMT is -9 hours, so I have to set it to GMT+9 to get the correct time, any idea why that is?

Thanks alot in advance for any comments/suggestions/solutions. Sorry if some of the grammar and spelling is abit off, I've wrote this in a hurry.
