Administrative Priveleges

I am the only user on this computer and when i try to delete a folder from the hard drive it doesent let me. It says that i don't have administrative priveleges to do it. Same thing happened when i tried compressing my hard drive. Please help me get full control of my computer. (i never used a forum before)

Re: Administrative Priveleges

Does it happen with all the files or just one?

Re: Administrative Priveleges

Welcome to Vista Forums, Katokato.

Are these folders in your user folders or in C:\\Windows. Some folders on the root drive have permissions set to avoid accidental changes or for security reasons. If it is something your sure you can delete, you need to take ownership. Info here: Context Menu - Take Ownership.

Hope this helps. Please keep us posted. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Re: Administrative Priveleges

It lets me delete folders in general but when i go to my computer, double click the hp c: drive then when i go inside program files and theres a folder that i want to delete it doesn't let me, it usually says i need permission to do an action while in the c drive. I attached a picture. I just want to know how to make windows stop denying actions even thought i am the administrator of the computer.

Re: Administrative Priveleges

As suggested by garysgold, take ownership of that file and you will be able to delete them. Certain files require admin rights even if you are an admin on your pc. Its normal.

Re: Administrative Priveleges

Yes program files is one of those protected folders. Use the tutorial above to add 'Take Ownership' to the right click on files and folders. You should be able to right click on the folder and 'take ownership' of the folder and files inside so you can then delete it. If not you will have to go further with permissions.
