how to clear recent places automatically

Hi all,

I love the recent places in Vista (which appears when we save). But it gets populated with almost all the folders that it becomes hard sometime. Of course we have Clear recent list but I have to do it manually which i regret.

Is there a way i can just set the time which clears the recent places automatically like once in a day/week.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello saravanan,
I gather you mean "Recent Items" located on the right side of the Start menu by default.
If you find it so annoying to have to right click to "clear recent items list" there is an alternative. It [ Recent items ] can be removed if desired & restored again if needed.
Please confirm that "Recent Items" is indeed what you mean.

Hello JMH,

Thanks for your reply.

I think i was not clear before. I have attached screenshot for your reference. While this recent items is very useful, it annoys a lot by getting crowded soon.

This is what i want to clear frequently so that only the latest locations show up. Can this be automated through a scheduled task?

Regards,
Saravanan

My Computer

Open up the following folder:

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

--I just opened up a random folder and replaced the folder's path with the above path.

Then delete as desired!!

My Computer

Something like this may work:
Delete Files by age and file extension (VBScript)

Just modify it to delete files of .lnk type in the recent folder.
If you boot up every day then once you have it tested you can put a shortcut to it in the StartUp folder.
