Formating your hardrive with vista.

Ok, so here is my problem. I have a hard drive with a 32bit Vista Home Premium operating system. What I want to do is completely delete everything off this hard drive (including the OS) and install my new 64bit vista Home Premium. Furthermore, before anyone asks, no I do not have a recovery or a boot disk. I do not have a disk that has vista 32 bit home premium on it. I have an HP pavilion computer. I would also like not to spend money on any additional "programs" to achieve a solution to this problem. Please if some one could give me step by step instructions on how to do this, I would be forever in your debt.

Please and Thank you.

As you are not throwing/giving the drive away - it seems you do not need to securely erase all data.

I assume you want to delete the partition(s) so you have a nice clean install of 64bit?

You can do that while installing from the 64 bit dvd.

See Step 10 here :

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-vista.html

Select Drive Options (advanced)

Delete the partition(s) create new one(s) and Format it (them).

Highlight the one you wish to install 64 bit on and click Next.

Hope it helps.
