Sp2 Error 0x80070002 Should I Have To Do A Complete Clean Install ?

After fighting with Vista and Dell for almost a year to get some semblance of reliability I finally got it running half way decently, now they want me to do a Complete Clean Install for this questionable Service Pack 2!Many people are receiving this 0x80070002 Error _Files are Missing and the hoops,fixes,deletions ,file checks/scans and uninstalls that Microsoft had me go through has been maddening ,complicated for a novice and way too time consuming for a brand new computer and operating system...Especially when none worked and they fall back to their usual ,"SIMPLE" old faithful ...JUST DO A COMPLETE CLEAN INSTALL???Thank God I did not just jump in with their instructions to start their "simple" Clean Install --- There are too many problems to make this fix "SIMPLE" and the instructions would have screwed up my drives,being a Dell Inspiron 1720 Laptop ,it has Dell Media Direct which makes formatting the Drive complicated (for me)and my Dell Restore disc's are pre Sp1,don't have Dell Media Direct Disc!Dell was absolutely no HELP but now Microsoft is going to send new Disc/Sp1?Thanks for the patience with this rant and here is my question?
Everything else is NOW working fine and all other Windows Updates ,3rd party software Updates,Downloads ,everything else is working,so should I wait and maybe Microsoft with all their benevolence will come up with a "fix" for this fix OR does anyone have a way to replace these files that scan check said are missing so the Sp2 can find them OR should I just skip Sp2?
