UAC, imageres.dll, messed up controls..Help please

So I'm sure people have had similar posts of some tweak going into his OS system files and changing things and now screwed up their OS. Well, here's another one

I found a cool Vista theme I wanted to try out. So I followed the directions but made a mistake or two. I had to download Windows 7 Power Tool Ultimate 2.3 if that matters at all. That whole process in trying to get this vista theme I think I did correctly.

However, I had to 'Take Ownership' of imageres.dll and change the name, and then put the new imageres.dll into system 32. Well, a) the new imageres.dll wouldn't copy into it, it said it did, but the new file never popped up. But this could've been a result of..b) I restarted after thinking I was done, and when it loaded all of my UAC controls are gone. As are some icons and themes and stuff. Which isn't my main concern right now. I have no admin controls, I can't even open anything that requires that. And everything just 'error fails' and such. Can't do System Restore.

I even went to see if I could Enable or Disable UAC (which I was supposed to do in the beginning of trying to put this theme in) and the C:\ box says 'Access denied'.

Sooo.. Idk what to do. And I don't have a Vista disc to do the fix it thing.

Hello Azuth, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might see if creating a Vista Recovery Disc to use to do a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before this problem instead may be able to fix it for you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
