Problems with Vista 64 Taskbar/Quicklaunch/Notify Area

Recently I've developed a issue with Vista. Occasionally my computer will boot up and I will have this problem. The first thing I notice is that a program, "Pinnacle Game Profiler" will not load. I will then notice that the mouse does not work (USB) so i have to hit "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and then the mouse will suddenly work. After resuming (canceling after doing ctrl-alt-del) none of the items in my task bar, notification area or quick launch buttons will work but "Start" will. The only way I can switch between windows is using the "Ctrl-Tab". To remedy the situation I have to restart Vista.

Setup:

MSI DKA790GX-Platinum
AMD Phenom II 940
2 x ATI Radeon HD4870
8gb Kingston HyperX DDR2-8500
Corsair TX850 Power Supply
1 - 300GB Velociraptor HD
1 - 1TB WD Barracuda HD
D-Link Wireless-N Card

All updates done to Visat64. Latest Drivers for HD4870, Motherboard, Audio, Networking, D-Link Card. I can't really think of anything that I've changed about the time this issue started. Any help or feedback would be appreciated or any info you need please let me know.

Can only attempt a guess here mate...I would suspect a driver conflict. I suspect you have an x86 Driver which x64 doesn't like. You may have to work backwards, uninstalling the most recent software (not Win Updates) until you find the system returns to normal. Also check your event viewer ..it may shed some light on which program causes the issue. There are quite a few games out there that x64 does not like..but equally..the same with some 3rd party software. You can do a "google" on each bit of software and see what others have experienced as well...that can be very enlightening. My gut feeling is it's a Graphics conflict with a game.
