Cannot transfer contents of DVD to PC

I have a data DVD of some 2.25 Gb which I want to transfer to my PC. I have tried various methods including creating a a new folder and transferring the DVD contents, creating a folder in 'C', but every time I get a message saying that the DVD is too big (or such words).
Is there a solution, please?
Alan.

Welcome to the forums brooke 1...

First of all, knowing your systems specs would help troubleshoot your problem better, 2nd, knowing the exact error message will go a long way since, this way, we don't have to speculate.

How big is your hdd and how much space do you have free on it? is your HDD Fat32 or NTFS?

In addition it would be useful to know what operating system you are using and which methods you tried to transfer the file. Also is it one file of 2.25GBs or several files.

Re: Cannot transfer contents of DVD to PC

Sorry for the omissions.
I use Vista and my Hard Disc is 750 Gb of which 699 Gb are free at the moment.
The disc I am trying to transfer to the PC is 2.25 Gb in size.
The message I get is that it is too large and gives me the choice 'Try Again', 'Skip' or 'Cancel'.
I first of all created a new file and named it abc but up came the no-no message.
I then opened Programme Files and created a New File there and tried to transfer the DVD contents, again getting the same message.
My HDD is NFTS.
I actually did have this file on my PC until two days ago when I had to reinstall Windows and now it doesn't want to know!

I still don't know how you tried to move that file. But try "Move to folder" Add Copy To / Move To on Windows 7 or Vista Right-Click Menu :: the How-To Geek

Re: Cannot transfer contents of DVD to PC

I created a new folder by right clicking on the desk top and
a. Tried to drag the CD contents into it, then as that failed,
b. Copy and pasting the CD to the New Folder.
Neither worked.
I do not understand your sugestion of Move to Folder. How do I do this?

Re: Cannot transfer contents of DVD to PC

brooke, read the instructions that i have linked. You install the feature on your system (under "Install" you find the download - best install both the copy and move functions). Then you right click on the folder you want to move, click on "Move to folder...", navigate to the target folder and click "Move" - You'll see. It is simple.

Re: Cannot transfer contents of DVD to PC

I am glad it worked. This is usually a much better way of moving or copying files than the classic drag or copy/paste. I suspect your initial problem was a problem with the size of the clipboard on your system. It probably could not accomodate such a big file.
