Battery/Adapter Question

I have a laptop and to conserve the battery life, I tend to take the battery out and just plug only the adapter in. Is this bad for the computer or the adapter?

No harm done. The only thing to worry about is because you are taking the battery out you have a greater chance of bending the prongs for the battery connection. Another thing to watch out for is that if it gets unplugged...you are hosed (as this will cause it to immediately shut off). Other than that it's fine.

Some newer model laptops actually come with an option that when it is plugged in, you can disable battery charging. So the power just goes directly to the computer instead of through the battery then to the computer.

Hope that helps.

Oh, that's sweet. The newer models part. Are these fairly recent models? Like 2009? Or can some 2008 have that option?

2009 is all I know of, I suppose it is possible on a 2008 but I don't know. We just ordered one for a guy at work that has it. A Dell Latitude E4300.
