Going Crazy, hotkeys or keyboad issue?

I bought a new dell studio laptop and it came with Windows Vista. I just bought it two weeks ago and its driving me nuts. TO the point that I don't even use it. When the letter "h" is typed in, history opens up. When the letter T is opened up, a new tab opens. THis is so frustrating. I searched the forum and there was a similar post to remove hotkeys. There was a link I downloaded and it was supposed to remove the hotkeys from registry. It did not.

Any help? Please! Thanks.

Sounds like the ctrl key on the keyboard is jammed.

Try pressing it a few times and see if that helps.

If it is actually damaged - take it back to the shop and get a new one.

Its not jammed from the feel to it. Another thing it does is when Im using the mouse pad, it increasse/decreases the size of the screen zoom. Thanks!

That confirms it . The ctrl key function is on all the time. Even tho. the key itself moves.

Take it back to the shop.

also, look down near the clock on the taskbar for an icon that might be related to a hotkey program. and check the "ease of access" settings in the tools menu. you could also look in the quick user guide that probably came with the laptop.

In addition to Kword's suggestion, you might see if it is Sticky Keys that is on causing this.

Hope this helps,

Ok. I'm having the same problem and it's really piddling me off. No matter what I do and I'm not even pressing the cntrl+ botton! Press H and it pops up History, press T new browser window, printer menu etc. I'm going NUTS, and don't even want to use the damn laptop anymore, oh and it's a Dell too. They must suck since I've noticed this problem and the Dell name. Anyways, I downloaded a program that is SUPPOSED to work and disable damn hotkeys and what do you know it doesn't have any effect. I'm using Windows7 btw. I don't see how the stupid hotkeys serve any purpose really. They are more of a nuisance than anything. So frustrated!!
