Can't access folders

There are nine folders I can't open. Each displays a message that says "access is denied". I am the admin (the only user). I even ran the windows explorer in admin mode (run as administrator). A few that give this message are:
C:\Users\John\application data; also cookies; local settings; start menu; etc.
I tried to set the security of these folders, but access was denied for that function too.
How do I open these?

Application data is junction (NTFS junction point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)not folder and it relate to folder C:\Users\<your account>\AppData\Roaming this means exactly path by you:

C:\Users\John\AppData\Roaming

see also:http://www.vistax64.com/vista-accou...-application-data-folder-my-user-account.html

The reason why you don't have access to this junction is the same like for Documents and Settings (also junction) so you can view family threads:

One of the folders I can't access is called "my documents". Aren't they supposed to be MY DOCUMENTS? What would be in there that I shouldn't see? BTW "documents" is accessible.

MY DOCUMENTS is also junction with deny to list folder data (as other junctons) and it is relate to DOCUMENTS

When using explorer you will see a shortcut arrow to the my documents, there will also be one without.

If you click on C: you will see documents and settings, this has a shortcut arrow because as Flavius has said it is a junction.

To gain access go to

C:Users/"your user name"/Documents
