Help with Partitioning Hard Drive

I am trying to create another partition (For Windows 7 RC) and now when I attempt to shrink the volume of my hard drive when it attempts to query volume for available shrink it fails and a window pops up and says "Catastrophic failure".

Can anyone help please??!!!

How did you try to shrink it? In Disk Management?

How did you try to shrink it? In Disk Management?

Yes, disk management. I right clicked on the hard drive and selected shrink volume.
