Hi
I new with Vista and I just to learn about it and I have already some problem. In System Restore I created munually my Restore Point.
Later when I needed to use that, it disappeared. Can someone tell me why and if there is some chance to find it.
What I supposed to do to protect my restore point from disappearing in the future ?

Hello Zungul, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It depends on quite a few things.

If the restore point is older than 90 days, then it will be deleted automatically.

If you dual boot with XP, then there is a issue where everytime you start XP the Vista restore points get deleted.

Some 3rd party junk cleaner programs have options to delete restore points.

Disk Cleanup in Vista has a option to delete all but the latest restore points.

If you or Vista has created more restore points since then, then the older restore points will be deleted to make room for newer ones when the maximum disk space is used up for restore points.

If you have turned System Restore off at any time, it will delete all current restore points.

If the restore point is not listed, then it is gone.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

G'Day Shawn,

I've just gone through the same gut feeling when my Windows Live Mail 'dropped out'.
Right click on the Quick Launch to run as Admin,... Start>Programs>Windows Live>Windows Live Mail.....nothing would open it up.

So I opened System Restore only to find that there was no Restore Point for the C:/Drive. Data D:/ and PQ Svc were there.

So off to Control Panel>Programs and Features>Windows Live Essentials>UAC Continue>Uninstall or Repair Your Windows Live Programs>Repair>Continue. That started a recovery process, after which I restarted my Computer. Windows Live Mail was back up.

Then back to Security Centre and the System Protection to create a new Restore Point.

Feeling much happier now, BUT, am I mistaken in assuming that Vista automatically creates a new restore point each 24 hours period?.... For the record, before any modification or download is made within my system, I always create a new restore point manually.

What I am concerned about, is that four recent Restore Points have just disappeared.

I did do a Disk Cleanup yesterday, without making any variation to the default settings, but after reading your post, I'll be very, very careful with that feature in future. So far, nothing else seems to have been affected.

Cheers Mate.

Tony.
