Backups

Hi folks:

1) How long should I keep backups performed by windows? (files back)

2) How long should I keep backups performed by Acronis software (entire system backs)

I've got windows backups from the beginning of 2009 and I keep about 6 Acronis backups.

Thanx

it is a personal preference.

i don't keep any as my windows vista, games, programs are all on different partitions from each other.

and i don't really worry about it. as i can always reinstall everything.

but i would say no more than 4 maybe. depends on how often you do your backups.

Thanx for your input.

System backs to an external drive. I have a lot of music and photos that I certainly don't want to lose. But I think you may be right in that it is a personal preference. I don't really think I need all of 2009 windows backups.

Just curious if there was any "rule of thumb."

just keep what you need maybe do a incremental backup, set it up to backup only items that have changed.

that way you have the most current backup but it only backup items that have changed, and not the whole HDD.

i do know you can do that with acronis true image

For me I dont keep any windows backups.

I do system images using Paragon at stages. Eg, windows, then windows w updates, then windows w updates n software, etc...
