Hi,

Ive been using my 500gb hitachi hard drive for along time now and its just about full, i have a new 1TB hard drive which is also more powerful.

Does anyone know how i can transfer all the contents from my old 500gb hard drive onto this new 1TB hard drive, as its running slow with only half a gb free space on it.
I want to sell my old 500gb hard drive after i have transfered all my data from it to my new one.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Get yourself some software to do it would be my answer, I dont know if you would have to reinstall vista.
Acronis seem a good supplier.

This should copy the compleate HD.
Or
Install the new HD with a fresh install of Vista and directly copy the contents of the second drive(Just the data you want to keep) to the new one.

If your computer has a firewire port that may be the the quickest way to transfer data. Research the procedure online, as I dont have a link to the procedure handy at this time, ill check back and see if you've posted again later when i get off work and if not ill link a procedure for you.

Hello Fields,

To copy your present drive to the new one download free disk cloning software like EASEUS-Disk-Copy or EASEUS Partition Master Home Editionn. Guess the screenshot will be helpful as well.
With the Easeus Disk Copy you can create the bootable CD to boot your machine and clone the entire drive when the OS does not run, imo that's safer. Hope it helps.

Cheers...

Edit; The HDClone Free Edition is for x64 operating systems.

You can use the "Clone Disk Wizard" of Acronis True Image. The clone mode is described on page 105, chapter 13 of the True Image User's Guide (PDF). This is the easiest way if you have both HDDs in the system.

Yes, it copies the whole system including all it's settings. It is an exact clone. Here is a thread from another Forum from yesterday where a member just successfully cloned the same way you are going to do. It may help to give you an idea. Changing HD Tutorial? « How-To Geek Forums

Yeh i think your best bet is to use your recovery option to install onto your new HDD then from the new Installed operating system cope and paste all the files using windows explorer.
