Computer Sleeping Problem

I'm not sure if this is technically a help forum or not, but here we go.

As the title suggests, my computer is having a problem sleeping. Not that it won't do it, it just doesn't do it consistently for some reason.

At first I thought it wasn't wanting to wake up properly. But the blinking activity light showed that it was a problem with going to sleep properly not snapping out of it. The HDD light starts blinking a second or two before the computer "turns off" and stays blinking until the computer is turned back on. Everytime the light stays blinking, the computer wakes without a hitch.

The times it doesn't wake up are when the light stops blinking when it turns off. It will blink a few times while still running as if it's going to do it. But instead of continuing to blink, it stop when the computer stops.

I'll post my system specs or whatever else you guys want if it turns out to not be an easy fix. And yes, I keep all my drivers current.

Thanks.

System make and model please (if it's a custom system, then the make and model of the motherboard).

The most common reasons for this are (in this order):
1. Corrupted video drivers
2. Corrupted storage drivers

So, download fresh copies of the latest video and storage drivers from the video and storage controller manufacturer's website.

Uninstall the current video and storage/chipset drivers through Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program.

Then install the freshly downloaded driver packages and see if that fixes things. If not, post back and we'll do some troubleshooting.

My Computer

Well, I recently reinstalled my videos drivers with the aid of a driver cleaner, so I didn't worry about that.

I reinstalled my raid controller drivers, chipset drivers, and checked "only allow management stations to wake this computer" on my NIC. I could swear I've done all of this before many times, but it seems to be working now. Before I couldn't get a string of more than 2 or 3 successful sleeps/wakes before I would have an unsuccessful one. I think I just did about 15 cycles using both the standard start menu/power button on computer and WOL/Winadmin remote access with my iPhone to sleep and wake it without a hitch. I won't know for certain if all is well until I use it over a longer period of time like a week or month, but this is a great start.

It had been doing it ever since I built the system about 6 mos. ago. Maybe it was just a more recent driver since the last time I tried troubleshooting it. Or maybe internet activity was causing problems without the NIC setting checked (not that it would come out of sleep at random, but maybe network activity at the exact moment it was trying to sleep was causing some kind of critical error?)

I honestly can't say, but thanks for the help.
