computer locking up and or running VERY slow..

hello I have a HP Pavilion desk top. Model M9340F.
it has a 700 GB "C" hardrive
it has a11.3GB "D" hardrive
It has 6 GB of ram
and is running a intel core 2 quad Q6700 CPU
it is running 64 bit OS VISTA home premium
sevice pack 1

the computer was always flying...in the last mointh it has been jamming up...locking up where I have to got to task manager and end task to get out.

sometimes it look like it is locking up , but is only going SUPER slow, because I can still use the mouse as in sliding the page up or down.
when it locks I cant use anything.

sometimes It happens with in a few clicks of the web pages I enter...

I have Kasperky installed and I get pop ups about intrusions..

but i fiugure Kasperky is handling them..

but I get lock ups even with out the pop up attack warnings.

I ran HIGHJACK this and there seems to be a bunch of O23%service blah blah blah items with the words (file missing ) at the end.

most things I recognize on the list....a few there is no way for me to tell what they are.

I did a defrag and it seemed to get worse

I deleted all my temp files and it didnt change anything.

the lock up only seems to happen when I go into web sites especially forums I am a member of....

ps I checked when the lock up happens and it seems my CPU usage is super super low , while my RAM usage is running aBOUT 30%......
Thanks

bob

Just curious, what browser are you using, and is that the only time your computer ever starts acting up?

What did you use to defrag?
What antimalware program(s) are you running?
Is your antivirus set to quarantine/delete files or simply notify you?

Heya TF,

I have had a similar recent experience with IE. And I have Kaspersky, too. It is anti-malware, BTW. Some may suggest running Spybot S&D ocassionally, and it may be worthwhile. But make sure you do a full uninstall of Kaspersky before installing Spybot S&D, and vice versa.

I finally gave IE up for Firefox. Haven't looked back. It may be your simplest solution if it works for you.

Cheers,
H

I got some help at another site....last week!!

anyway....thanks for your replies.

the issue apparently was my BEARSHARE program had a media bar, that and the mouse I have ( a cordless version ) had a key stroke messenger that sent info back to the manufacturer about my use,
or so i was told..any way i uninstalled both those programs and my computer went back to flying again!!!

funny thing was those items have been there for at least 6 months..but the issue of dogghing my computer and locking up only had been the last 2 months

some keyloggers are idle for a set time period.
They do this to fool you.
If Your system started to act slow as soon as you had installed the program then that would have given it away.

I was a firm believer that IE was the browser to use and for the most part, I was denying there could be anything better, after all, Microsoft was not the Giant for nothing. What a fool I had been all this years... Firefox or nothing I say! :D

Run a few add-ons and say goodbye to pesky cookies, scripts jacking up your system w/o your knowledge. Hell, visit msn.com and see how many cookies and scripts want to load into your rig... pathetic, intrusive & shameful if you ask me. I found that msn lets doubleclick.com get nto your pc w/o your knowledge :sa:
