Task Bar & Icons Disappear

When I power on my ASUS laptop, the desk top background changes, the task bar settings are reset to automatically hide, and the desk top icons disappear. I can go in and change the taskbar setting and change the background back, and I right click on the desktop to remove and then reset the check mark the "Show Desktop Icons" under the view option and I can continue along my merry way. But when I shut down and power back on, everything disappears again.
Please help.

I would disable all startup programs and see whether that cures it. If yes, you have to reenable them one by one and see which one is the bugger.

I have exactly the same problem with my ASUS notebook initially upon boot it looks fine, but then stuff just changes -- desktop icons are set to "view" but have to be re-set after boot in order to see them. Theme was set to aero but on boot auto resets to classic. Hide taskbar was unchecked but on boot resets to checked. Everything has to be readjusted after every boot. Has anyone identified a fix that works?

I had that problem..everytime i plug my charger out the background changes and the icons and taskbar disappear..

but for me the problem was because the mode was on 'battery saving mode'
so how u change that is u press the FN button n at the same time press the left side of the space bar, it has a figure of a woman or some sort.. press those two together until u come to 'entertainment mode'
n ur background icons n taskbar will reappear :)

well i hope it works for u
