Self shutting down / start-up

My mother has an eMachine (with Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit) that's only seven months old, but just the other day, her computer started shutting down by itself, and actually restarting itself (from a totally off status) in some instances... In some cases, the computer was having a problem restarting, and Windows start-up fix utility would appear... I also have to mention that the computer at times would shut itself down even in Safe Mode...

I have been working on it for two days trying to trouble-shoot the problem... I have not only read posts on this forum of related issues, but on other Vista forums as well, and followed all the steps that have been instructed in everything I read... here are some of the steps that I have done so far, but the problem still persists:

1) Installed best antispyware to remove any possible trojans that her Nortons Internet Security has missed (it found over 8,000 spyware items in her computer, and removed them)... I did this because I read in one forum that a trojan (which Nortons missed) was the culprit.

2) Installed a top of the line Registry fix program, which it fixed about 960 registry problems.

3) Did a System Restore to a prior date (7/15, which is two days prior to when the problem started to arise).

4) Did a full system scan with Nortons, of course, to remove any possible malware or viruses.

5) Opened the side panel to check if there was an accumulation of dust, which would cause a heating issue, and it was pretty clean, and not dirty... I read in another forum that a heating issue was the problem.

I'm starting to think that this is a hardware problem, and something is faulty on the mother board (I read that this was the issue in another case)... OR, I think it just might be something else that I was thinking about today... her prior computer was an old Dell, and she had it plugged into a UPC back-up power supply... when we hooked up her new computer, we plugged it into this same UPC since it was still working... however, that UPC unit is probably about 12 years old, and I was thinking that it might be faulty to the point that it's generating improper current flow, thus causing Windows to detect this and shut itself down... but why would the computer also start-up by itself from a totally off state too?...

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks for any help with this.
