vista 64 bit 4 gig ram issue

My situation i have a set duel channel 1 gig a-dat memory ddr 400 2gig total memory works for 3 years, still works great.

I bought the same memory, set duel channel 1 gig a-dat memory ddr 400 and installed them on my vista 64 bit system

the bios reads 4gig np but windows will not load (windows error recovery) no specific error listed. I then took out my original memory and left the new in the newly used duel chanel slots on my motherboard.

Both the new memory and the previuosly unused ram slots work fine. I have repeatly installed all 4 gig same problem (windows error recovery) and always

works fine with either set of in either duel chanels on my motherboard. I have windows vista 64 bit.

Hello Ramm, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Often, updating the motherboard BIOS to the latest version may solve this problem for most. You might check to see if you have a newer version available and if the readme notes for it say if it addresses this issue or not. On a 64-bit Vista, you may need to use a USB flash key to flash with if your motherboard manufacturer does not have a 64-bit flash utilty though.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    You're welcome.

Sometimes, you will need to format the USB with FAT32 instead of NTFS for it to work at boot to be selected from the BIOS updater. At least it's this way with my Gigabyte board.

Please let us know how it went for you.

    Hello ramm,
Asus is an easy board to update the Bios on if you use the EZ Flash update tool in the Bios, don't be tempted to update from within Windows, it's fraught with danger.
What model MB is it ?.

PS. Updating the Bios is not recommended unless you are having issues with your MB. If you check the Asus site it will give you details of any new Bios and what issues they deal with.

If you do as Brink says and use a USB flash drive you can use the EZ Flash in the Bios.
Of all the boards, Asus is one of the easiest to update the Bios on.
These are the latest Bios for your Board, as you can see the 1003 is a beta.

    A8N5X BIOS version 0902

    A8N5X Beta BIOS 1003

If you want them let me know and i will get them for you.

Re: vista 64 bit 4 gig ram issue

As a last resort before flashing the BIOS, double check to see if there is a Memory remapping option in the BIOS settings that should be enabled. You might also try resetting the BIOS settings back to default as a test to.

If it still doesn't help, then flash the BIOS with the 0902 version, and possibly the 1003 beta version if it still does not help.
