Windows Home Premium 64 bit

I just got another new computer and it has Vista Home Premium 64 bit on it, being new to Vista I have a few questions. In Programs there are 2 IE explorers, plain and 64 bit. I understand the plain is 32 bit. Can you switch back and forth between them? In program files there are to Program files Plain and x86. Is the plain 64 bit and the x86 32 bit? When Windows Home Premium 64 bit comes new installed what does it default to, 32 bit or 64 bit?

The reasoning behind the two different Internet Explorers is that Flash players aren't set up to work for 64 bit (x64) systems yet. So there is the 64 bit version, and the 32 bit (x86) version so you aren't completely stuck when you get to a website that requires flash animations. To be safe, so far I have just been using the 32 bit version.

The Program Files folders are separated between the two as well. Programs that are originally 32 bit (x86) will go in the x86 folder. If the program is a 64 bit (x64) it will go into the "Plain" one. Its not that there is a default...your computer will pull from both, depending on what type of program you are trying to run.

Thank you for your response. That makes a lot of sense. I noticed that when I put a program that said it would work in 32 or 64 it went into the 32 bit program file. Can you switch back and forth between the 2 IE browsers 32 and 64?

It kind of depends on what the program means. If it was built for 64 bit systems then obviously it will run only on 64. I think that the program you installed is a 32 bit program but it is just stating that it will work in a 64 bit environment as well. If there was no option to install a 64 bit version of that program then that is more than likely the case.

As for the switching back and forth. You will need a window open for each if you want to do that. When I just started using 64 bit Vista I was using the 64 IE and I would run into a site that wouldn't load so I would have to open up the 32 IE to get to it. It was kind of a pain in the butt.
