How to keep vista from locking when it goes into sleep?

Hi!

I've been reading some of the tutorials on this site as to how I can keep my laptop from automatically locking itself when ever my screen saver goes up.

Basically, what I'm trying to make my computer do is simple. My brother has an HP laptop (I have a Toshiba), when he opens up his laptop or restarts it from sleep mode or what ever, it automatically loads onto the desktop. For me, it loads up the choose-a-user page, in which there is only one user, and it claims it is "locked".

I have tried a few different things so far, I went to my screen saver settings, unchecked "On resume, display logon screen", then I tried going to the netplwiz program from the start menu, disabled "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.", hit apply, and since I don't have a password on my computer, and I hit OK. Vista even made me log off and back in to change this setting. And it is still locking the computer every time it goes into sleep or the laptop is closed.

It is kind of frustrating, especially when I'm trying to do something in a hurry and Vista takes it's sweet time reloading the desktop every single time.

If anyone knows what to do I'd appreciate it.

Do you recommend both, or just either or?

Also, sorry for my non-understanding, what do you mean by "change your settings?" Its a wide spectrum of possibilities! :O

Certainly set it up to load as fast as possible, but as I understand, you would rather it didn't have to reload. If it was a desktop I would set it to not sleep, Vista's load time being what it is, but that may not be convenient for a roaming laptop.

It may be that some registry setting/s over-ride user choices, and it can be time consuming to find and change the relevant ones. Google is your best friend there. Proprietary (?) suppliers like Toshiba and HP often make manufacturer specific changes to settings in their bundled operating systems. It may help to find where these settings are stored in the registry, what they should be for no logon screen, and change them with start-run-regedit.
