My Backup and restore is in error.

Hello.

Well.... all I did what is what I should not have done. I deleted the Backup set. You know the backup location\computername\ backupupset\ year month day time folder and now I have an empty drive but Vista backup and restore think there are restore dates(that are not there) and I can't use the restore for the restore points as well.

I tried to creat a new Backup set and that came up with errors.

This is a Vista32 machine and I need to not have created a monster for my wife although she married one.

I was out to free up drive space and well messed up the operating system.

Re: My Backup and restore is in error.

Have you tried turning off System Restore then turning it back on?

Re: My Backup and restore is in error.

First thing I did was turn off the auto backup.
Shutdown and restarted.
Same. Can't start new backup and next autobackup 7/29/2009 still there?
All the old points there but no folder. Locked away in registry entries somewhere.

New Backup errors on empty drive. except for a couple of folders with practicaly nothing in them.

I can't be sure as I am at work to look. But I intend to buy a WD backup HD on the way home. At this point I will try to do a full backup to this 1g WD.

I am a tech but not much into computers as I work on them at work and not PC's. I am a hardware and managed network guy.

Re: My Backup and restore is in error.

Have a look how your shadowstorage presents itself. Here are the instructions ( How to reduce disk space used by Windows Vista system restore ). Then you can resize it (same instructions). During the resize, all old shadows (restore points) will be deleted.

Re: My Backup and restore is in error.

Thanks,
1.
I was keeping a running backup with the backup restore wizard and that filled up the D: drive. That was where this started. I trashed 70g worth so I could backup less to D:. Say images and e-mails and documents
With a free of that backup folder that I found I should not have dumped anything to the trash, I could not start a new backup to D: That is where problem 1 is
2.
I gave system restore a shot and it came back with system restore error after reboot.
So I am dealing with 1. Backup and Restore of files wizard from the control panel issues and system backup that makes restore points and well neither work.
The link is good but I don't see it's relevance.

Your 2 cents are valuable. I like the manual way as as I don't like auto scripts. I would like to trust it though.
