Vista-64 Hangs on boot & no Mouse on

Ok here is my recent problem... All hardware is the same as before the problem FYI.

FIRST:
I am unable START windows by mouse movement (Logitech MX Revolution)
after a shut down ONLY the power button works.
-Power management = Set for maximum performance
-Mouse = Advanced Mouse properties (all mice)= Allow mouse to wake up computer
-Drivers are latest Logitech 7.2ver.

SECOND:
When booting the system HANGS for over 5 minutes on "Detecting Mass USB Storage Devices +01" appears, if my EPSON Printer/scanner is turned "ON" .
If I turn off the printer it boots normally.
Notes:
1-Printer has slots for memory cards and sticks, but the same performance either loaded or not.
2-Printer is a USB Printer (Epson RX595) all the latest drivers are installed
3-BIOS was recently flashed to latest version ASUS 2901 for my system, everything worked properly AFTER the new BIOS.

The only semi-related issues may be...

4-Moved the PC to "air clean" the case before this occured.
5-This required a power chord disconnect and all periferals removed for 1 hour.

The system then booted (by switch) OK but dislayed the "hang" otherwise it appeared OK untill restart when it showed the restart issue.

Tried "Clearing CMOS" again (1st was after BIOS Update) then resetting but with no improvement.

Any thoughts on a solution will be sorely appreciated.
BTW
I have seen a similar issues on Google but the resolution (disable/enable legacy USB in BIOS) has no effect on my issue.

System specs follow...
Windows Vista Ultimate-64
Thermal-Take Mozart case
Intel Q6600 Running at 2.4GHZ
ASUS P5w DH Deluxe (BIOS 2901)
8GB OCZ Memory 4X2 "auto" clocks
Antech True Power Quatro 850 watt PS
CD R/W Drive
DVD R/W Drive
160 GB Seagate SATA (System "C" drive)
WD-20 GB HDD (backup only)
160 GB Seagate PATA (short storage only)
500 GB Seagate SATA as PATA (Mass storage only)
ASUS 8800GT-1GB Video
HP w2207 Monitor

Thanks in advance my fingers are crossed...:)

I would suspect the USB ports, have you tried moving the mouse to a different port?
I rather doubt the BIOS would play a part in this scenario. If changing the port does not fix the issue, try repairing windows, it could be that a dll has become corrupted and this may be the root cause of your problem.

Ghost:
Thanks so much for the ideas. Sometimes the simplest diagnostics elude us.
I did try using another USB Port swapped with Keyboard, but no difference.

I so dislike the hassle of a repair install but I think you may be right about the DLL issue. I wonder if reinstalling the software packages (mouse - Keyboard) might help.
Oh and BTW disabling legacy support AGAIN worked this time for the "Hang" on detecting Mass storage.
Thanks for the help mate, I'll keep you posted.

Tim:
Reinstalling the drivers for the peripherals is always better than a repair if it works, I, like yourself, hate the hassle associated with a repair of windows, unfortunately every version of windows becomes more complicated and consequently need for "repairs" becomes an increasingly more visited aspect of most people's computer "experience", and it is not always guaranteed to work, the alternative however is much more painful, thankfully we can now build USB installation and backup drives.
