my drive is 500 gig ok
i have used 100 gig in storage of files
but the disc says ive used 250 gig and i carnt find why
i have deleted al tempory files and so forth
does that make it any clearer

Hmm, the classic problem. Your count is not considering a few facts:
1. You 500GB (in decimal) is only 465GB in binary (and that is what the system uses - still 500 billion bytes, but in a differnt currency)
2. Your shadowstorage can be up to 75GB
3. there are a lot of system files that you don't see and do not account for. winsxs alone can be up to 15GB
I suggest you run WinDirStat ( WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics ). That will give you a better picture. Then account for the binary effect (7%) and the 15% shadowstorage. I am sure you will then see a little clearer.
