Solved Need help: Can't delete file with low WIC level

Hello. I'm really, really stuck with deleting a file on Vista, and I saw these boards, they appear to be very good, so I decided to ask here.

So basically, I've got this old version of Java that I want to replace. The files are located at C:\program files\java. I managed to delete all the files, except these two. I renamed them to 1.exe and 2.exe so that it would be easier for me to atempt deleting them, but I know one of them is called jucheck.exe. Both are in the bin folder (c:\program files\java\bin). I am logged on to the administrator account of Vista (the actual admin, not an admin account). Whenever I try to delete them, I get an 'Access denied' error message. I've tried everything I can think of--I changed their WIC level to low, no program is using them, I tried forcibly deleting them in command prompt with the -f and /q atributes, changing their ownership, editing their sicurity settings, renaming them, deleting their file contents, I don't know what else is left to do. If anybody can enlighten me on how to delete the file, I'd apreciate it.

Hello Hussain, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Did you check to see if the Java program is listed in Programs and Features first to try and uninstall it instead of manually trying to delete it? If not, then you might see if reinstalling the program and uninstalling this way may work for you.


You might see if using the program Unlocker will allow you to delete the files.
