Windows vista oem activation error

Hi,

Need some help here, I bought a brand new laptop from a store about 6 months ago, everything was working good till a few weeks ago, laptop came with Vista Ultimate OEM pre-installed, but no cds or dvds.
Everytime I start the pc now, I get this message:

"Windows Activation
Reinstall Windows

Windows must be reinstalled to activate. Insert the Windows instalation DVD or CD into your computer to begin the reinstalation process."

Since this is a laptop, there's no hardware changes, not even a memory upgrade.

I don't want to reinstall windows because I dont want to loose my programs, music and pics.

Please help!!

Click on: Start orb > Control Panel > Classic View(left pane) > System.
At the bottom of System page, see what it says about Activation.

Report back.

I misunderstood.:)

Someone may know of a simple solution for this. I don't.

In the event that you have to reinstall, there are ways to retrieve your personal files
first if needed.
It might be possible to go into Recovery Console during BIOS boot, and reinstall from the Recovery partition.
All files, programs etc. would likely be lost.

Best of Luck.

Take it back to the shop.
It should have been activated before you bought it.

Hummmm?
Did you read my post?
No problems on boot.; like I said before, After windows starts, I have the option to click on my name to log in, when I do that .........

hitting F8 and choose last best good config does help at all, because I don't have any problems booting the laptop.

True, but you did check system properties to see if you had to activate it yourself? And wouldn't VIsta ask you to activate it a number of times before it entered reduced functionality mode?

Windows was activated before. This is a know issue with Vista Ultimate OEM. But everything I've found so far is "How to prevent this ..."
