Missing Desktop Icons

Hey, all! My brother bought a new laptop a few weeks ago and now whenever he starts the computer from shutdown, none of the desktop icons appear. The taskbar is showing, and all of the desktop icons are located in the desktop folder, however none of them show up. The only remedy I have found so far is unchecking the " Show Desktop Icons" option and then re-enabling it. This only works until the computer is shutdown again, in which case they disappear when it starts up. Does anyone happen to know what the cause of this is? I scanned the computer using Avast but nothing was flagged as being suspicious.

The laptop is an Asus U81A-RX05 running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1. Let me know if there is any other information that might be able to help.

Thanks!

Joe

See if this Applies:

Right-click the Power icon in the System tray.
Go to Power4Gear Extreme.
If you're in Quiet Office mode look for an option in the lower corner "Hide Desktop Icons".
If so, Just Say No.
