Help needed - laptop battery will not charge

Hi, I'm new to the forum, sorry if this is posted in the wrong place.

I haven't used my laptop for a while as I'm home for the summer from University and have been using the home computer. I turned my laptop on for the first time in a couple of weeks today and for some reason I can't get it to charge.

The battery light is staying green all the time despite there being 0% battery available. The laptop (on Vista home premium) works fine when plugged in but as soon as I removed the cable or turn the plug off the laptop just goes off.

This hasn't happened before and I'm baffled. Can anyone help? Much appreciated,

Sean.

Sounds like the battery is dead and needs to be replaced. You say you haven't used it for a while so it's possible that the battery has completely discharged and may not be capable of recharging.

This is just my opinion as I have no knowledge of laptops or their batteries so if you want to wait for one of the experts to help feel free ;)

Nearly forgot welcome to the forum hope you enjoy being here :)

Sean,

Joan has pretty well hit the nail on the head here - it does sound like your battery has died (I have had the same thing happen to me with my camcorder). There is nothing you can do about it, except replace the battery.

Thanks for your help.

I did fear this, going to give the helpline on my guarantee form a ring tomorrow but I think I'll have to replace the battery :(

You're welcome,
At least you have a guarantee although I don't know if batteries are covered they are what are normally classed as consumables, or something like that, I can't be sure but hopefully you'll be OK and they will replace it for you saving you the cost ;)

The OS will not affect battery charging but battery running times. you may do battery calibration or have more laptop battery capacity by replacing li-ion cells.
