Desktop icons and folders freeze up

Maybe someone can help me with this problem.

Since I built my new PC and loaded Vista64 in Feb/09 about 2 times per mth my desk top icons/folders freeze up and I have to re-boot my PC to get them to open again.

Is there a fix for this or is it inherent due to web sites I visit/spyware?

Thanks,

Riko

Freeze up as in everything freezes? Is there anything in event viewer or software/hardware that could be causing this? Anything in Windows Problems and Solutions?

Yes everythink on my desktop freezes.

The mouse and task bar are usable and that's how I'm able to re-start windows.

When your computer freezes can you ctrl alt del to get to the task manager, if you can go into resource meter.
Is there a large amount of harddrive activity when your computer freezes.
Does it freeze when you are doing the same thing?

Yes I can ctrl-alt-del. Next time I will check and see what the HDD activity is.

Generally the problem ocurrs during web surfing and my guess is that some type of pop-up or ad ware causes the freeze. But, I'm not sure.

Hello RikoSuave,
Have you looked at what add-on's are running when you are using the web ?. (go to tools, manage add-on's, and see what is running).
Also have you scanned for ad-ware ?, here is a link for Malwarebytes, scan your system and see if it finds anything.
Good luck and post your results.

Thanks Stoney,

Here's a screen shot of my add-ons. Nothing really jumps out at out to me that would cause the freeze up.

I'll check out the Malwarebytes link.
