Vista loads, but no video?

I'm not sure where to post this, but here goes. I'm running business 32 bit. I tried to resume from standby, and got a black screen. I rebooted, saw the bios, the OS loading screen, then black screen (but with vista loading, as I heard the 'startup' sound). I can even enter my password (the LEDs on my laptop change and the LCD display on my keyboard loads up when the OS is loaded). Everything works, except the video. I have 2.5 GHz dual core 4 gigs ram, 256 meg graphics. It's done this before, but the system restore fixed it... But it's not now. And to complicate things, it works fine in safe mode. I'm so frustrated.
