Disk Drive Icon

Hi,
I just changed the letter on a external hard drive
Now the disk drive icon has dissapeared??
I tried to change it using a ico file, but nothing is working?
It is still the same??
Does anyone know what has happened? or, tell me what to do?
To get the image back?

Hello Riptorn,
Take a look here, it will show you how to restore the Icon.
Don't forget to have your drive turned on.

If your icon file is corrupt or damaged, you can rebuild the folder.
Here is a link that will show you how.

Or if that does not work, try this.
Open Services component (type Services in Start Search or go to Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Administrator Tools). Locate Shell Hardware Detection, and then double click on it to open Properties dialogue. Ensure that the Startup type is set as Automatic, and then restart the Computer.

Well. I did all that you said??
But in the registry editor The driveicons is missing in my editor?/
I do not have it, so, I am still stuck...

It does say in this link that you may have to make the entry yourself if it is not there.

Sorry stoney, I must be dumb?
I got that far, but it's all a bit too much??
A bit difficult for me??
Is there a registry hack for it?
Maybe you can make it simpler for me?
I really do not know what to do???

I was going to send you mine, but i just looked and i don't have it either.
Have you tried rebuilding the icon cache ?.
I will have a look around for a fix, in the mean time if anybody has the same OS, they could upload it for you.

I have tried all the registry, added driveicons, tec, etc, but still nothing works?
I do not know anyone here with same OS??
So i cannot copy anything?
Do you know anyone?
I am really pulling my hair out here??

Is your OS x32 bit or 64 bit ?.

It is 32 bit

OK, i have an Icon that works, i have tried it on mine , it's not the best icon in the world, but for now lets just get an icon working and if you don't like it we can try and change it later.

1. Open and save the file to a folder on your desktop.
2. Go to edit and select all.
3. Right click and copy.
4. Go to computer, right click on the image of your external drive and paste.
5. Reboot.

Hello Riptorn,
Found this, it's a lot better than the last one, lol.
If you follow these instructions all will be well, i have tried it and it works.
Plug the drive into you computer.
Open the drive in My computer.
Click on Tools.
Click on folder options click the view tab.
Select show hidden files.
Click OK.
Close all of the My computer windows.
Do a file search on your external drive and search for .ico files there should only be one or two. delete them.
Now empty the recycle bin and restart you computer.
The next time you open your My Computer windows it should have the same icon as your other drive.
