Vista won't come out of hibernation

I have a new HP Pavilion dv-4 laptop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. When I try to
restart from hibernating, I receive a fatal error message the computer can't come out
of hibernation. I tried to disable hibernation and delete the hiberfil.sys file through the
Disk Cleanup application. After it was run, the Hibernate option disappeared from
the shutdown menu but hyberfil.sys was not deleted. I deleted hiberfil.sys from
the command prompt and then ran powercfg -h on which recreated hiberfil.sys
and restored Hibernate to the shut-down menu - but it still fails when I try to
come out of hibernation. I have RollBack RX installed on the system and I wonder
if this is causing the problem.

TIA

I agree with usasma here. Programs such as this, because of the way they operate, hook themselves in and execute early in the boot procedure (just as the recover from hibernation routine does). Unfortunately, this can cause conflicts if they both try to run at the same time. If you wish to use hibernation, uninstall this program first. Note that you may need to temporarily disable hibernation in order to delete it. You can always turn hibernation back on afterwards.

I'm new to Vista (1 week) and wasn't aware of SP2. When I ran Windows Update, it told me my system was up to date with SP1. I downloaded SP2 anyway and tried to install it. I got a buffer overrun fatal error so I canceled the install. I uninstalled RollBack RX after aborting the SP2 install and now hibernate works. Now the question is: do I want hibernate or do I want RollBack? -Paul

Hmmmmmmm... This is a weird situation... I'm no expert, so I can't help much. I've certainly never seen anything like this before.

RollBack had a problem where it would try to launch the ComputerName.exe application everytime I tried to log in. RollBack Support furnished an update which took care of the original problem but caused a new hibernate problem. Reinstalling the older version of RollBack fixed the hibernation problem. -Paul

My Computer

I'm on an HP HDX as well and I just discovered this issue yesterday...

I'm running Vista Home x64 but I see that I'm on SP1... I'll look for this SP2 and see if that changes things.

My Computer

Glad my suggestion solved your problem :)
