I got a Dell Inspiron 531... My kids knocked it over on its side... It ran threw a bunch of self dignastics... It tried to fix the memory it' self but was unsuccesful. It said there maybe a pyhsical problem with the memory. The HD, RAM?

Vista loads up with normal progress bar, mouse loads up, then nothing. Eventualy blue screens and starts all over. Any ideas?

Oh dear thats why i never let kids around my beauty custom built pc. what you need to do is see if anything came loose/detached im guessing that you're a smart guy and know what to do but just check to see your motherboard isnt damaged make sure your memory sticks are all the way in. also make sure your HDD's are in the right bay slow not loose and check to see if the HDD cable is connected to the motherboard (very wide usually black and thin) just in summary check to see nothing is loose flapping around and loose i hope everything works out ok

Hello thetreeguy,
Good advice form Impulse Fire911.
Also it may be worth removing the Ram sticks and re-seating them, but with luck, it's a loose connection.
Just check that the CPU cooler is alright, it wont stop you booting up, but could cause overheating if not seated properly.
Dont be too hard on the kids, we went through 3 TV's and a stereo system when ours were growing up. lol.

Hello thetreeguy, welcome to Vista Forums!

In case you don't know; just to be on the safe side keep your forearm against the PC case as you explore the inside to reduce the risk of shorting something out with static electricity.

My father knocked my laptop off my desk once, and the wireless card came off. I had to fix it myself. I hope your laptop isn't damaged permanently!

It does look like the HDD has turned in to a paper weight, sorry to hear that, at least you are going in the right direction.
I'm guessing no pocket money for a while.
