Hi guys, good to see there are so many (hopefully knowldgeable) peeps on here.

I have just bought a new computer

i have vista home premium 64 and i have 12GB of RAM.

Thing is on the control panel it says I have only 8?

Is this just a display thing? I know there were 3-4Gb issues with vista 32 etc.

Thanks in advance for the help.

(theres definately 12 in there I have checked) Its DDR 3 RAM

What does the performance tab in Task Manager say - that's what counts.

One question, did you buy the parts and put it together? Or did you buy it from a manufacturer? Because if you put it together yourself, did you make sure that your motherboard could handle 12GB of RAM? I know that mine can only handle 8GB.

Try what the other two said first but if you don't find anything there, find out what motherboard you have and go to the manufacturer's website to find out if your mobo can actually handle the 12GB you have in it.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the reply guys

Ive just checked the task manager performance tab, it says 8182MB,

The mother board I have in is
Asus P6T Deluxe V2 (Intel X58 chipset, SLI/Crossfire) which says it has capacity for 24GB?

Any further ideas before I go back to the supplier?

Hello ShaunVista,
Asus in the past have had issues with the correct amount of Ram not showing up in the OS.
I have provided a link for their site, and for your Motherboard, check to see if there is a Bios update to fix this.
You may even find a fix for it on the forum boards.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results, thanks.

go to the belarc advisor website, download this free software, it will make a detailed analysis of your computer (after installing takes less than a minute) it will open up a window in your browser (or a tab depending on what version and browser you have) and tell you what you need to know (its only about 1 MB) so a decent internet connection takes less than a minute

Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit

this way you'll know if you need to go back to the manufacturer or just update your Bios. Also are all the Ram sticks you installed the same manufacturer or have you just been installing 1 stick every few weeks when you could afford the cheapest one?
