Poolwizard,

As a test, only have the 1 GB stick of RAM installed where the 512 MB stick is to see if it works or not for you.

Go ahead and install the other 512 MB RAM stick, but make sure that it is not in a RAM slot that is the same color as the 1 GB stick is in.

What are the specs for each RAM stick? (Ex: speed, timings, voltage, etc....)

You may have two sticks that will not work together. Please fill out your system specs to so that we can look up what type of RAM your motherboard supports as well.

You're most welcome Poolwizard. :)

Since your memory is DDR2, it was trying to run the RAM in dual channel mode when they are in the same colored slots. This can only work if the RAM sticks are the same type. Having them in separate color slots allow them to run in a slower single channel mode, but you will be able to use all of your available memory.

If you would like to have better performance, you can dump the 512MB stick and get another exact same 1GB stick to put in the same color RAM slot for dual channel mode and to have 2 GB of RAM.
