Solved Drive Icon Changed (only 1) - Strange Issue

I've read the Tutorial on this: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/111388-drive-icon-change.html but not sure where to start.

I multi-boot (Vista Ultimate SP2 on C: & D:, Windows 7 Ultimate on L: ) and the same strange icon appears in Windows Explorer in all the 3 systems I boot. That makes registry editing a question mark....where do I do it, if I do it?

I've run chkdsk and the volume is clean. This is a brand new computer and all was well until I used that drive for the first time yesterday when I backed up my files from my external drive to it.

Any suggestions anyone?

Search for autorun.inf inside the drive. that file could be the cause of the drive icon.

enable hidden folder view and super hidden folder view. Search for the autorun.inf and delete.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually in my last post I said I'd run chkdsk, well it was a regular disk check that said the drive was OK, now I'm running a chkdsk /r and it is still running so I'd better wait until it finishes. You can appreciate on a 1TB disk it takes a while to finish step 5.

I'll post back with the results of your suggestion later when it's finished and I've cleaned off the cobwebs that are forming around me while I wait....

You were right, that's all it took. When I transferred the files I had right-clicked, and done a "Select All" and just copied the whole drive to P:. Obviously that took the external drive's autorun.inf with it, which must have confused Windows. Never had that happen before, very weird.

I hope I never have to run a full chkdsk /r on such a large drive ever again. It's about as fascinating as watching grass grow.
