My XP computers hard drive is having some serious issues. first it would only boot up in safe mode, now there is a "unmountable boot volume" 0x000000ED.

I just want the pictures off that drive. how should I get them if the operating system doesn't work? Can i plug the SATA drive into my Vista machine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

I can recommend 2 options:
1. You can use this Linux program ( Computer First Aid Using Knoppix ) to recover. This is completely independent of your current OS and is loaded from CD.
2. You take the HDD out and stick it into an enclosure that can connect to any computer via USB. Here are a few enclosure examples ( hdd enclosure - Search at Office Depot ). They sell in any electronics shop.

If you are going to spend $30 why not get the dock? I've been using the BlacX USB 2.0 for about a week. Very convenient. I was doing the occasional backup to an external USB that I kept off the network. This is much more convenient that plugging in the AC adapter, USB data wire and all that mumbo jumbo. Just take out a box with an internal drive in it, and swap it for the one in the dock. I do many more image backups a week now just because it's less hassle.
