Windows Vista Aero Problem

Hello All,

I have a big problem with windows vista. I really want to get the aero theme working but I am failing at it. I have windows vista home premium 32bit.I also have 2 gb memory , 2.66 GHz , My resolution at the moment is 1024x768.I have a 19 inch widescreen (dell). Here are some pictures that might help you tell me what my problem is.

You can post almost any problem in general discussion, so yes, you have posted in the right section. But if you would like to be specific, you can post to another section instead. General discussion usually has more viewers.

I dont know if its just a problem my end but i cant get your pics to maximise can you sort that first?

and you want to think about upping your res if you have a 19" monitor 1400x900 if its widescreen 1280x1024 if its 4:3

Archie i tried the resolution and then restarted but still no aero working.

sorry mate i just recomended you set a differant res as its better for your monitor size not to solve the issue

I cant get your pics to maxim,ise when i click them , they stay small , too small

ah i see so the Aero theme is missing altogether , what graphics card do yuo have?

could you goto control panel , then performance and information tools

in rate and improve your computers performance click the refresh now box and wait till it finishes its tests , tell me what score you get for gaming graphics

there is a point to all this i promise

ok all seems fine , yuor graphics drivers are WAY out of date , first off go here Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers and download and install the latest drivers for your card , driver version should be 190.32

uninstall the old ones first through control panel , reboot then install new

also hit start then all programs / accessories and click RUN in the window type winver and hit return , it should say at the top windows vista home premium

this may not solve the issue but we need to eliminate everything before blaming the operating system

it could be a program you have running at startup that isnt compatible with Aero

Is this what i should uninstall?

cant do any harm I disabled UAC the minute i found out how to do it i always forget to mention it

Wow thank you archie.. i installed the new nvidia and it really gave me aero!!!! Thanx so so so so much!!!

But should i change the resolution?Cuz at the moment its 1440x900. And everything to me seems so tiny :D.

Btw i got another very old problem. I rarely use my dvd reader and now it doesnt work.... But it can actually read cd's.... so if i add a dvd it wont read it. Do you think its the drivers fault or a program is missing.

ok if you cant play DVD's its not down to your graphics drivers (if they didnt play properly it would have been) if its not recognising them at all it may something else , does it do nothing at all when you insert a dvd? what if you goto computer? is the dvd listed there? can you right click it and select "open with" it may just be your autorun options that need changing.

the second problem with your address bar , im not sure what your problem is can you be more specific (nice use of paint btw ), you do realise that aero will change it , you can also change the colours aero uses if you right click desktop and select personalise , you will see new options for colour schemes now aero is running

Is there a way to make it look like when its not maximized but its actually maximized
( I guess its really confusing)


DvD: well it worked when i got the pc. And never used it since then. And now in about 1.3 years i wanted to watch a movie and it wouldn't find anything. I inserted the DVD and waited for about 5 minutes. I checked my computer and double clicked the dvd drive. It told me that there is no disk inserted.

i know what you mean now you want transparency when its maximised dont you...........im not sure i dont think you can with the default Aero theme (maybe somebody could correct me) but you can with third party software like windowblinds , but is it really worth the hassle?

so its not recognising the disk mmmmmmmm have you tried

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

this is for a differant issue but maybe worth a shot , also what DVD software do you have? are you just using media player? if you open media player with a dvd in and select "open" (in media player) can you see it (the dvd) from there?

make sure you have the latest version of media player
