Vista x64 Not reading dvd

Hello everyone I am not sure that this has been solved, or if anyone has had the same problem.
I did a search and found nothing, but here it goes anyway.
I am running Vista Ultimate x64 and this was a fresh install about 1 month ago the OS runs great have not had any problem with it except for this.
I have a LiteOn DL DVDRW-SHW-160P6S the drive works fine when I insert any regular cd, it burns dvd's and cd's just fine it will just not read any preformated dvd's such as games or movies.
I have tried several deferent burning softwares but it does the same.
This has to be a problem with Vista x64 I am sure, I took the drive out and placed it in my other system running vista x32 and it works perfect so it has to be something with Vista x64.
Also I took the DVD drive from my vista 32 system and put into the vista 64 and it did the same thing.
Anyone have any ideal how to fix this or what could be causing the problem.

Thanks for any help.
PEACE
Chris

Does it read data dvds? is it just the movies/media that it cant read? does the un-readable dvd's play in another dvd player? sorry abt these questions im sure someone has asked you these before.

As you know in the optic drive ..there are two separate laser beams to read
cd and dvd ...One of them might be bad...?

In your case ..: after straight out all update drivers .....and still doesn't work ...

Nothing else you can do but buy another one ...

(BTW....Stop pulling your hair over it....LOL)

I always thought Vista 64 was always a bug version to make sue people upgraded to 7 when it came out.

Well I have used a lens cleaner and took the drive out and tested it again in another system and the drive worked perfect.

What the drive will do:

#1 The drive will read regular autorun (SOFTWARE) Cd's fine.

#2 It will burn DVD and Cd's fine.

#3 It will boot from a bootable DVD and regular cd.

#4 It plays DVD movies fine.

#5 it shows as a DVDRW in the system

What it wont do:

#1 It will not read any DVD or CD data disk "burnt disk".

#2 It will not read a DVD autorun (SOFTWARE) disk like a game disk.

Rep4Rep!:
Vista x64 itself runs perfect I have not had any problems with it other then this, everything I have wanted to do it has did perfectly.

tek101:
I really don't want to dwell over this but I know it is a vista problem and there should be a way to fix this without replacing the drive or hitting the format key.

I did order a new drive today going to see what it does when the new comes but I would bet money it will do the same thing.
