a fairly easy question hopefullly :)

hi everyone,

i just have an easy question about turning off my laptop

when i turn off my laptop i find it easier to just press the power button then to hit start and all (God im lazy)...it still goes into the whole windows thing where it says logging off and shutting down and when i turn it back on i dont get any kind of a blue screen or anything, it just starts back up regularly...now i just wanted to know wheter it is bad to do this, now keep in mind i am not holding down the power button so that it just turns off with out some kind of shutting down sequence because i know that is bad for it.

I think it is better to shut down using the start/shutdown etc, then You know for sure Your sytem is shut down and not idleing and wasting battery or electricity.

Its only a few clicks,it's not going to slow Your life down too much.

See Ya William.

I don't know if there is anything in the Tutorial section but I believe you can put a shortcut on your desktop that when pressed does the job of shutdown without having to go to the Start Orb.

Years ago I found this useful utility at Steve Gibson's site I have used it ever since windows 98 and has worked on all the window OS so far including Vista you simply make a shortcut to it on your desktop and then click properties and tell it what to do in the little target window by adding the word "shutdown" without the quotes after Gizmo. ( with a space) I made a stop sign for my shutdown icon and a boot icon for rebooting. ( by simply adding the word "reboot" after gizmo) You can ask it to do many things such as eject the CD rom drive etc. have a look at the following.

your power button is obviously set to go through the normal shutdown procedure when its pressed so all is well...........carry on your fine :)
