Ok so I am pretty sure my son and his friends are getting on to my computer some how. I have windows vista 32X, I know he is getting on because he is looking at things on the internet he should not be. I have only one account and it is password protected with a very strong password I.E. 4gh3224dssfp][. But some how he is still getting past it and getting on to my computer. The only thing I can think of is that some how he is getting past it in the boot proses or he is some how system restoring it but I really don't know. I am at a loss on how to better lock down my PC so he can't get on. If anyone has any I ideas on how he keeps getting past my security or ways I can keep him from getting on would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

There's plenty of ways to do this - but with each way comes a way to undo it.

The surest way IMO is to put the computer in a locked room that only you have the key to.

I went through this with my kids.
In their early teens it was web-blocking software (we don't believe in spying on them).
Now that they're older, there's only 1 rule - if my network gets inundated with incoming connections, they're cut-off.

Change your passwords, put a password on your BIOS, disable all accounts but your own, disable the CD drive and USB ports.

You could also physically remove the dvd drive, and possible upgrade to Windows Ultimate to use Bitlocker which locks down your hard drive. Just don't forget the password if you do. As Usasma said, delete all the accounts and disable the guest account.

Thank you for the reply's. I know the basics of computers but I am not a real guru. That being said how do I password protect my bio's? and I know I can just physically unplug my DVD drive but how would I disable my usb? Thanks

Lock up IE too

Can also use the content advisor in IE and set a different passwd (assuming you use IE of course) to control that access.

My Computer

When you boot up the PC, look for an option to enter BIOS, such as Del or a Function key such as F12. Then look through the tabs until you find an option to add or remove a password.

Also the user account folder "Public" says it can not be deleted and I do not show a "Public" in my list of user accounts is this something that is legitimately suppose to be there?

My Computer

The Public folder is there so anyone can access the files inside with limited restrictions, as opposed to your personal files, so it is supposed to be there.
