Two problems: DEP fix leads to explorer crashing & USB issue

Problems are on my laptop I just picked up. It is a used HP DV6000 running Vista Home Premium 32

Guess I'll start with the data execution protection. This was giving me all sorts of problems. The example I'll use, even though there were a lot more instances, is trying to view an enlarged picture in an Ebay auction. I couldn't do it without DEP stopping it. I looked up the fix for this and shut DEP down, and now instead of DEP stopping it, Internet Explorer shuts it down. It tells me internet explorer stopped working and won't allow me to open it up. Here's the error info I get on it:

Problem #2

Hope the title isn't miss leading as I don't think the problems are related.

I just purchased a micro SD card reader. I have couple of different micro SD readers but I liked this one because it's real small. I put the micro SD card into the reader and plugged it in. It did it's install and said everything was ready for use. Unfortunetly it wasn't. It would name the reader as drive (F) and I could see it but I couldn't view any info on the card or save any info to the card. I unplugged it and tried the micro SD card in a different reader and it works fine. I tried the card and new reader in my home computer running Windows XP and it works fine. For some reason the new reader and card doesn't work in my Vista Home Premium running on my laptop but it all works fine on my home computer running XP.

One thing I did noticed and I'm pretty sure this is the problem but I don't know how to fix it, when I plug the card and reader into Vista and check the properties it says file system unknown, when I plug the card and reader into XP it says file system FAT and all is well.
