Solved Fixing dual boot - vista 64 and xp

Hello, and thanks to all who read/respond.
Background info:
vista installed on drive 1
xp installed on drive 2
dual booted just fine.

A week ago my main drive stopped working - a manufacturer fault. I lost everything on the drive.
I replaced the main drive 1, installed vista 64 again. Drive 2 was unaffected.
I would like to dual boot so that I can run xp again, but don't know exactly how to set that up again.
XP is already (I assume) on drive 2. There is no boot.ini on Drive 1 now.

I know there are tutorials on how to set up dual booting, but I don't want to re-install xp if it's not necessary. The files on drive 2 are there and unaffected.

Any comments, suggestions?

maybe a third party boot manager? this one is free: GAG, the Graphical Boot Manager

or, if you are able to reformat the new drive, then restart the computer with the vista64 cd/dvd, you should be given the option to install to either hard disk (obviously you wouldnt choose the one with xp on it).

I have been using the vista os on my main drive for a while now and have no plans to reformat either drive.

I would like to hear from anyone that has had an experience similar to mine where one drive needed to be replaced. I assume all installation files for the secondary drive containing xp are intact. I just need to be able to boot to the second drive for xp, or choose to boot to vista (which is on the primary drive).

Has anyone used the GAG program above?
